About this course

Course overview

The senior practitioner credential — taught with the project, not in place of it.

Most Black Belt programs make the same mistake: they teach the body of knowledge in a vacuum and leave learners to figure out what to do with it. This bootcamp does the opposite. Every learner brings a real Black Belt project on Day 1, works on it across the ten days alongside the curriculum, and leaves with 90 days of instructor coaching to bring the project home. By the time you sit for IASSC ICBB or ASQ CSSBB, you're not just exam-ready — you have a completed Black Belt project that's already moved a real metric.

Days 1–2 cover Define and Measure. Days 3–4 go deep on the Black Belt statistical core (hypothesis testing, regression, DOE) — the depth that distinguishes a Black Belt from a Green Belt. Days 5–6 cover Improve plus the Lean tools at depth. Days 7–8 cover Control and Black Belt project leadership. Days 9–10 integrate everything with mock exams, capstone presentations, and the 60-day exam-prep + project-completion plan.

Learning outcomes

What you'll learn

Every module is tied to an outcome you can bring back to your team the next day.

  • Define a Black Belt project — charter, business case, voice of customer, scope, deliverables, success criteria — that survives executive review
  • Build a measurement plan, validate measurement systems (MSA), establish baseline performance, and calculate process capability
  • Apply hypothesis testing, regression analysis, design of experiments, and ANOVA at the Black Belt depth distinguishing senior from intermediate practitioners
  • Design and execute pilots, optimize via DOE, and select the right improvement strategy from the combined Lean and Six Sigma toolkit
  • Build control plans, statistical process control charts, mistake-proofing systems, and the sustaining mechanisms that prevent regression
  • Apply Lean tools at Black Belt depth: VSM (current and future state), takt-time analysis, line balancing, SMED, 5S, kanban, kaizen events
  • Lead a Black Belt project portfolio: project selection, charter approval, Champion engagement, MBB coaching, change management
  • Sit for the IASSC ICBB or ASQ CSSBB exam after a 60-day post-bootcamp study + project plan, with instructor coaching for the 90-day project window

Audience

Who it's for

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belts ready to advance to Black Belt with a real project to drive
  • Operations leaders, continuous-improvement managers, and process-excellence directors building a Black Belt portfolio
  • Quality, manufacturing, and engineering leaders responsible for measurable process improvement
  • Senior project and program managers integrating LSS into their delivery practice
  • Internal-LSS-program leaders preparing to coach Belts inside their own organizations

Course structure

Syllabus

A structured path from core concepts to applied practice.

Module 1

Days 1–2 — Define and Measure

  • Black Belt project selection, charter writing, business-case construction
  • VOC, CTQ, CTB translations; SIPOC, stakeholder mapping, Champion conversation
  • Measurement system analysis (MSA), gauge R&R, attribute agreement
  • Data-collection planning, sampling, operational definitions
  • Process capability (Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk) and baseline establishment
Module 2

Days 3–4 — Analyze (Black Belt Statistical Core)

  • Hypothesis testing: null/alt, type I/II error, p-values, t-tests, ANOVA, chi-square, non-parametric
  • Regression: simple and multiple linear regression, correlation, residual analysis
  • Design of experiments: full factorial, fractional factorial, Taguchi approach
  • Workshop: hypothesis testing, regression, DOE on each learner's real project data
Module 3

Days 5–6 — Improve (DOE Application + Lean Tools)

  • Improvement strategy: solution generation, FMEA screening, controlled-pilot playbook
  • Optimization via DOE, response-surface methodology, Monte Carlo basics
  • Lean tools: VSM (current/future state), takt time, line balancing, SMED, 5S, kanban, kaizen
  • Theory of constraints fundamentals; choosing between Lean-led and Six-Sigma-led approaches
Module 4

Days 7–8 — Control + Black Belt Leadership

  • Control plans, SPC charts (X-bar/R, p, c, u), out-of-control rules, poka-yoke
  • Visual management, sustaining mechanisms, transition-to-process-owner playbook
  • Black Belt portfolio leadership: project selection, MBB coaching, Champion engagement

Module 5

Days 9–10 — Integration, Mock Exams, and Project Closure

  • End-to-end project review with peer + instructor coaching
  • Mock exams for both IASSC ICBB and ASQ CSSBB body-of-knowledge formats
  • Item-by-item debrief, weak-topic identification, rationale walk-through

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions?

Is Green Belt a prerequisite?
Green Belt completion is strongly recommended but not strictly required. Without it, expect significantly more pre-work. The course assumes fluency in DMAIC, basic statistics, and process mapping — anyone walking in cold will struggle in Days 3–4 (the statistical core).
Can I sit for both IASSC and ASQ Black Belt exams?
Yes. The course covers both bodies of knowledge in parallel. IASSC ICBB has no experience requirement; ASQ CSSBB additionally requires 3 years of work experience in the Body of Knowledge plus two completed Six Sigma projects. Most learners pursue IASSC first then ASQ.
What's included in the 90-day post-bootcamp coaching?
Each learner gets bi-weekly 30-minute instructor coaching calls for 90 days post-bootcamp to advance their Black Belt project. Coaching covers analysis review, improvement design, control-plan validation, and stakeholder/Champion alignment. Group office hours are also scheduled monthly.
Does this satisfy ASQ CSSBB project requirements?
Two completed Six Sigma projects are required for ASQ certification. The project worked during the bootcamp + 90-day coaching window typically counts as one. Learners are expected to complete a second project independently before applying for CSSBB.
Can this be delivered as a private cohort?
Yes — and most enterprise clients prefer it. Private deliveries use real internal projects across the bootcamp, can include MBB candidates as parallel-track participants, and bundle Wave 1 / Wave 2 cohort planning to scale the Black Belt program organization-wide.
