About this course

Course overview

The PMI credential most aspiring project managers should earn first.

CAPM is PMI's entry-tier project management credential and the natural next step after a 1–2 day Essentials workshop. The current exam structure (effective July 2023, refreshed annually) reflects how PM is actually practiced in 2026: roughly half predictive, a fifth agile, a quarter business analysis, with the rest on cross-cutting fundamentals. This course teaches the breadth honestly — no pretending it's all predictive, no pretending it's all agile.

Day 1 covers fundamentals, performance domains, and predictive planning across the knowledge areas. Day 2 finishes predictive, then surveys agile frameworks and business analysis. Day 3 integrates everything with cross-domain practice items, a timed mock exam, and a personalized 30-day study plan. By Friday afternoon you have a study path, a weak-topic log, and the PMI application ready to submit.

Learning outcomes

What you'll learn

Every module is tied to an outcome you can bring back to your team the next day.

  • Apply the project lifecycle, project phases, and the PMI guiding principles of project performance
  • Use the eight PMI performance domains (stakeholders, team, lifecycle, planning, work, delivery, measurement, uncertainty)
  • Plan and manage scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, communications, risk, procurement, and stakeholders in a predictive context
  • Apply Scrum, Kanban, XP, and SAFe basics; recognize when each fits and how Agile principles map to the PMI Agile Practice Guide
  • Apply needs assessment, stakeholder analysis, and requirements elicitation at the level CAPM tests
  • Choose between predictive, adaptive, and hybrid delivery approaches for a given context
  • Sit for the CAPM exam after 30 days of post-workshop self-study using a personalized weak-topic plan

Audience

Who it's for

  • Project coordinators and team leads moving into formal project management roles
  • Business analysts, engineers, and consultants who run projects as part of their work and want a recognized PM credential
  • New project managers (1–2 years experience) targeting PMP later — CAPM is the rung-up step
  • Career-transitioners pursuing their first PMI credential before the PMP work-experience requirement is met
  • Teams standardizing PM vocabulary across functions where not everyone can sit for PMP

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions?

How is this different from PM Essentials and PMP Bootcamp?
PM Essentials is a 2-day INTRO workshop with no exam target — the on-ramp. CAPM Prep is 3 days targeting PMI's CAPM exam — your first credential. PMP Bootcamp is 5 days targeting PMI's PMP exam, which requires 3+ years of PM experience. Most learners progress Essentials → CAPM → PMP over 1–3 years.
Do I qualify for the CAPM exam?
CAPM eligibility is far more accessible than PMP: a high school diploma + 23 hours of project management education (this course exceeds that). No work-experience requirement. Full eligibility on pmi.org/certifications/capm.
Is the CAPM exam included?
No. PMI exam application, exam voucher ($225 PMI members / $300 non-members), and Pearson VUE / PMI-OP scheduling are handled separately unless explicitly bundled in a private engagement. We walk through the application process on Day 3.
How much overlap with PMP study material?
Significant. PMBOK 7 is referenced in both. The agile + business analysis sections in CAPM map directly to PMP's coverage. Most learners who pass CAPM see ~40-50% of their PMP study load already done — though PMP demands deeper application of every concept.
Can this be delivered as a private cohort?
Yes. Private deliveries can include a tenant-specific case study, bulk PMI exam-voucher pricing, and a follow-up 'PMP readiness' coaching engagement once learners hit the work-experience threshold.
